Operative One of the major problems with traditional plate count methods is performance times of 6 – 72 hours. The consequence is a historic registration of water quality. Today there is a demand for rapid answers and short reaction times.
The BactiQuant® can be used to establish baseline data for water quality. Routine measurements can then be used to detect deviations from baseline and allow immediate actions to be taken.
Proactive The BactiQuant® delivers a rapid and robust system to monitor source water quality at intake, treatment efficiency, distribution system integrity and as quality assurance following renovation of water systems.
The near real time results allow for proactive management of water system performance.
An important feature of the BactiQuant® method is that it is a culture-independent bulk method. This allows the method to detect bacteria in chloramine and UV treated water and bacteria immobilized on particles that would not be detected using classical heterotrophic plate counts.
Analysis results obtained with the BactiQuant method thus provide the water industry and end-users with a more comprehensive evaluation of water stability.
Innovation Developing the best solutions for the future water systems requires a high degree of expertise and Know How.
The BactiQuant® can be used in the innovation process to evaluate new system designs with special focus on reducing bacterial presence.
Design The BactiQuant® method combines four important elements in its method design:
1. The exclusion of a cultivation step (i.e. the bacteria does not have to reproduce and grow prior to analysis), which reduces the performance time from days to minutes.
2. The use of highly sensitive fluorescence technology.
3. A concentration step which increases sensitivity and allows significant reductions in detection time.
4. The utilization of a closed filtration unit, which facilitate an easy, robust and reliable handling of the sterility of samples on location. No handling of the filter membrane is necessary.
